Beijing is known for its friendly people, good food, long history and most of all being the cultural capital of China. The course is will be held in the Haidain district, just steps away from the Summer Palace and Great Wall. The location provides students with the perfect experience and atmosphere for getting a TESOL certificate and exploring a city that is fast developing, historical and soon hosting the 2008 Olympic games. China is a country on the move, and with its population of 1.3 billion, opportunites are endless.

Beijing is one of the few cities that has remained culturally intact around China and kept its cultural relics. From the Great Wall, Forbidden city and Summer Palace to the small hutongs around the ancient Qianmen area, Beijing is overflowing with culture and history.

Country Costs

Although living costs are rising as China continues to develop, it is still quite cheap by Western standards, however, given the differences in living costs from region to region it is difficult to provide an accurate estimate of costs. As a guideline, a budget of £15 per day will allow you to eat well and enjoy some of what China has to offer.

Visa Requirements

You’ll need a Tourist (L) Visa for attending this course. You could obtain it from your local consulate or apply with a local travel agent. You could find your local consulate’s website through a Google search by typing in “Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in xxxxxx” for example.

 There might be new rules that just came out without any prior notice as all the Chinese Consulates state on their websites that “All regulations and costs are subject to change without notice”.

However, you will need to prepare these following documents when applying for a Tourist Visa: 1) A visa application form (This can be downloaded from the Consulate website). 2) One recent 2 x 2 inch portrait attached to the application form. 3) Original passport with at least 2 blank visa pages and valid for at least 6 months after the date of application. 4) Previous Chinese visa records (if any, together with their copies). 5) Visa Application Fee, this depends on the country where you come from. 6) Your passport, valid for at least 6 months after your planned arrival date. 7) A hotel reservation letter might be required. However, this also depends on your nationality. If you are requested to provide one, please email us and we can get it prepared and send it to you via email. If you are asked to provide contact information in China, you may use our school’s address on the website. 8) If you would like to stay in China after the course, you may want to apply for a 60-day or 90-day Tourist/Business visa, possibly with double-entry or multiple entries. The Course Administrator will be able to give you further details about this.

Health & Safety

The health rate amongst Chinese is remarkably high, however, given the varying standards of hygiene visitors are advised to exercise due care and diligence and should be aware of potential health risks.

Visitors are advised to carry basic medicines for cold, diarrhoea and constipation. Those requiring special medicines are advised to carry an amount sufficient to cover the duration of their visit. Medicines should be carried in their original container identifying them as legally obtained drugs.

China is one of the safest countries in the world and the Chinese are friendly and welcoming. Crime is low and virtually unheard of against Western visitors. Petty street crime does exist in some areas and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions to protect their property and take out insurance cover for personal belongings.
